The Process

Let CatholicShop/Blais Church & Religious Supplies bring new life to your most treasured sacred pieces. Owners of fine metalware have entrusted their articles to us for more than a quarter of a century. We will provide for you, an expert appraisal and quotation for thenecessary plating and repairs. Utilizing only the most advanced techniques, our experienced craftsmen bring your cherished pieces to their original luster and magnificence.

Should I re-plate?

Most pieces of silver, brass, bronze or gold that have not absolutely disintegrated are worth re-plating. Of course, the most important reason is SENTIMENT. After having a piece your whole life, or having it handed down through generations, these articles become priceless heirlooms. The price of re-plating them is less significant when you consider these items are irreplaceable.

Polishing & Plating

Prior to the plating process, each piece is carefully dismantled then hand-buffed down to the base metal. It is then meticulously handpolished by our skilled polishers to remove as many pits, scratches, and other imperfections as possible. We take great care in handling your piece and ensure that only the best finish is achieved. Your sacred piece is then electronically cleaned to remove any remaining buffing compound residue. Next, we thoroughly check the conductivity of your piece to ensure even plating throughout the entire surface. We then re-plate your piece according to your specifications. Your piece is coated with enamel and thermal baked to a hardened, protective finish. This method is far superior to cold sprayed lacquers. When restoring these pieces, we utilize an environmentally safe process.

Examine Your Items

Take a moment to look over your items to be refinished. Pits and corrosion can be difficult to remove. We may not be able to remove all of these flaws, as this may weaken the integrity of the piece. We can always make these items look beautiful, but they may not look “new” if they have pits or corrosion.

Ordinarily, engraving will still show up after the plating process unless it is very faint prior to the plating process. If there are deep scratches, pits or gouges near the engraving, we will leave these flaws in the metal. This will preserve the engraving. If you prefer, we can remove the engraving and have new engraving placed onto your piece.

Tips for Maintaining Your Sacred Pieces

Clean with hot water and mild soap

Wipe the article with a polishing cloth after each use
