St. Brendan the Navigator is Patron of Sailors and Mariners. Memorial: May 16. Saint Brendan established monasteries and traveled the seas, but little is truthfully known of his voyages. It is said he encountered mermaids and sailed to the Americas, but there is no proof to support the tales.
