Yahweh Loves a Desert: The Prophet Poems

In a prolonged season of upheaval and personal heartache, the poet Anna A. Friedrich turned to the Bible--and not to the most obviously comforting parts, but to 1 and 2 Kings. There she found two prophets in terrifying settings, debilitating fear, wrestling with God in prayer, and yet continuing to give the LORD their yes. Inhabiting these stories as if her own, Anna gives us the gift of focusing her creative attention on the questions in Elijah and Elisha's stories in particular--questions she takes onto her own tongue, and then responds here in Yahweh Loves a Desert, a collection of poems Tish Harrison Warren has called "a thing of beauty, craft, mystery, and mercy." But this volume is much more than a personal reflection by one poet, it's a sacred invitation to let these biblical questions break into your own life and speak afresh.
